Title of Quilt:  Twilight Descends
Description:  "Twilight Descends" is my interpretation of “Aerial Perspective” which is how atmospheric conditions influence our perception of objects in the distance. As objects get further away, they appear lighter in tone, which is why the “mountains” in the background are lighter in color that the “mountains” in the foreground. This quilt is made using 63 batik squares that were part of a batik block swap I participated in. The black fabric is also a batik and is a nice, deep black because it has blue tones in it.
State:  OH
Inspiration:  Aerial Perspective: how atmospheric conditions influence our perception of objects in the distance
Finished Size __" x __":  42 x 40.5
Designer's Statement:  My background is in graphic design, and I only learned to sew so that I can make quilts. I've always been an artist and have explored different mediums, but designing with fabric grabs my passion. I'm inspired by everything: patterns in trees and leaves, designs in a tile floor, the shape of a wave. Sometimes I get an idea like a flash and other times the fabrics tell me what they want to be. Lately, I've been doing more exploring with fabric and art quilts that incorporated traditional piecing, but in new ways.

Congratulations on creating a very captivating quilt. As a batik lover I appreciate the skillful placement of fabric and hue gradation, drawing your eye across the field of color. It is lovely.

Beautiful quilt. I like that you let value do the work, but, as always, color gets the credit. I don't know who first said that, but it is true. I like the subtle diagonals that are offset by the black ones. The black is such a strong frame for these vibrant fabrics. Lovely quilt.
