Official Quilt Design Star™ Rules

Eligibility

The Quilt Design Star™ 2011 competition is open to Quilt Designers who have not previously had any design published for profit in any quilting magazine, book, or other quilting publication (including collection quilts for fabric manufacturers), with the exception of self-publication. Designers must maintain this amateur status for the duration of their participation in the competition. Previous Quilt Design Star™ finalists are not eligible to participate.

Contestants must be at least 18 years of age by 3/15/2011, and must be legal residents of the U.S. or Canada (excluding Quebec).

Contestants must provide a working email address and agree to respond within 24 hours to any email sent to them by employees of New Track Media LLC/Creative Crafts Group/McCall's Quilting magazine.

Employees of New Track Media LLC/Creative Crafts Group/McCall's Quilting magazine, its respective parent, affiliate, subsidiary, advertising, sponsoring, and promotional companies and the immediate family members of each are not eligible. This contest is void where prohibited by law. Due to legal requirements in Quebec and European, South American, Asian and other nations, the contest is restricted to the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec). McCall's Quilting reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to change these official rules at any time.

All entered quilts must be original designs, or original interpretations of traditional designs, and must be the individual design work of the contestant. Quilts designed by a contestant, but made and/or quilted by others, are eligible, but proper credit must be given to all involved in the actual completion of quilts and/or quilt tops.

Finalists and winners will be required to execute an affidavit of eligibility, compliance with contest rules, and release of liability, as well as a confidentiality agreement. No finalist or winner will be allowed to release any information about the Quilt Design Star™ contest in any form without express permission of McCall's Quilting.

Entering the Qualifying Round

The entry period for the Quilt Design Star™ qualifying round is 3/15/2011 through 5/1/2011 inclusive. Entries must be made online at McCallsQuilting.com; limit one entry per Designer.

Each entry will include 1 clear digital photograph of a single completed quilt (consisting of three layers and quilted by hand and/or machine), made using any technique(s). Contestants are encouraged to enter quilts that show who they are as designers, including their favorite techniques, color palettes, and styles.

Each entry also requires a completed form, found on our website, McCallsQuilting.com. All contest quilts must be the original design work of the entering Designer. Contest entrants agree to abide by the terms of these official rules and by the decisions of the contest commissioners, which are final on all matters pertaining to the contest. New Track Media is not responsible for mail or shipping problems or delays, internet crashes or slowdowns caused by network congestion, viruses, sabotage, satellite failures, phone line failures, electrical outages, natural disasters, or acts of man or God.

Judging and Timeline for Qualifying Round

Beginning 5/2/2011 and ending 5/24/2011, the public will be able to vote online for their favorite Quilt Design Star™ qualifying round quilts. Public votes will be considered in the selection of finalists by a panel of 3 quilting industry representatives who will serve as judges, scoring entries on the basis of overall appearance, originality, and design appeal. Finalists will be selected and given the opportunity to compete in 3 quilt design challenges, beginning 5/28/2011 and ending 10/16/2011. Finalists will be notified of their selection by 5/26/2011. Decisions of the judges are final and binding, and not subject to challenge or appeal.

Display and Publication

All electronic entry materials become the property of New Track Media LLC/Creative Crafts Group/McCall's Quilting. Quilt photos and information on entry forms may be published in McCall's Quilting, at McCallsQuilting.com, or in any other format or publication owned or controlled by New Track Media. Designer e-mail addresses and phone numbers will not be published or released in any format without express permission of the Designer.

Acceptance of Finalist status and/or a prize constitutes winners' permission to use their names, likenesses, cities and states, and to be photographed for advertising and publicity purposes, without additional compensation except where prohibited by law. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.
